My grandmother had vascular dementia and lived with it for many years. Her eldest, my mother, began showing signs at an earlier age and has progressed through the disease more quickly. In good health, my mom is a vibrant presence. Her laugh is so big it fills a room and one of my favorite sounds. She's the kind of person you enjoy meeting.

When things became more serious, my dad moved them into an independent living condo—no stairs and with meals provided—in a beautiful Virginia community near their longtime home. It was a logistical relief. But after a fall, her disease advanced more rapidly. Neither my dad nor I had much familiarity with the tools and resources that could help at home, or when we might need them. Each challenge brought a new round of improvised fixes and internet searching.

I share this in the hope that other families navigating similar experiences can access what they need more easily. With better support, the many tasks of daily life at home can feel less daunting.

Through this process, I’ve learned what works—and just as importantly, I’ve learned from others what works. That’s what this catalog aims to do: consolidate practical solutions and hard-won lessons into one accessible place. It improves with every bit of input and will continue to grow. Together, we can make the path a little clearer for those who follow.
